There is something wonderfully freeing about painting paper with no expectation of creating a finished artwork.
These papers don't have to become anything today.
They are simply colors, textures, marks, and possibilities waiting for the right moment.
Months from now, one tiny scrap may become the perfect leaf, bird wing, flower petal, or background in a collage.
For now, just enjoy making them.
What You'll Need
📄 Mixed media paper, copy paper, or old book pages
🎨 Acrylic paint
🖌️ Brushes, palette knives, brayers, old credit cards
💦 Water container
🧻 Paper towels
Just get color down.
Don't worry about perfection.
Brush on one color.
Roll another across it.
Scrape paint with an old gift card.
Leave some white showing.
Every mark adds character.
① Cover the Paper
② Add Texture
Experiment while it's wet.
While the paint is still wet,
try pressing different objects
into the paint.
Try:

corrugated cardboard

plastic wrap

combs

sponges

stamps

leaves

the edge of a credit card
See what happens.
③ Build Layers
Let colors peek through.

Let the first layer dry.

Add another color.

Leave parts of the first layer showing.

Scratch through the wet paint for extra texture.

④ Add Something Unexpected
Try something you didn't plan.
Now it's time to play.
